Halima has expertise in commercial transactions having worked at leading law firms and institutions in Kenya such as Ahmednasir Abdikadir & Company Advocates, Harrison Kinyanjui & Co. Advocates, Takaful Insurance of Africa and the Capital Markets Authority of Kenya.
She further has expertise in energy and environmental justice, having taken part in the analysis of environmental impact assessment project and study reports of extractive and infrastructure projects and their license conditions, and having assisted community groups in enforcement of environmental compliance and in mitigating the impacts of these projects in Kenya and beyond as part of teams at Natural Justice: Lawyers for Communities, Power Shift Africa and the Environment and the Legal Response Initiative hosted at Simmons and Simmons LLP, UK.
She also has strong experience in legislative drafting and policy making, having undertaken her articles of pupillage at the Parliament of Kenya and drafted numerous Bills. She has worked at the State University of New York USAID DFID funded Parliamentary Strengthening Programme and the Agile and Harmonized Assistance to Devolved Institutions Programme, both focused on building the legislative capacity of Parliament and county assemblies in Kenya. She was involved in setting up the inaugural County Liaison Office in the Parliament of Kenya and pioneering the inaugural county legislative attachment programme between the Senate and county assemblies in Kenya.
